So, you’ve found the love of your life (YAY!), you’ve looked at rings, your families are over the moon, and then you begin to feeling the overwhelm of planning (or see the average cost of a wedding… $35,329!). Weddings are a lot of things, but above all they are a celebration of love. A love so deep, that you’re proclaiming to do life alongside one another!
Firstly, let’s define what an elopement is.
An elopement can mean an array of things, from an officiant and your boo on top of a mountain, an intimate group of family and friends joining you on a beach in Mexico, to a quick flight to Vegas. Elopements are a private celebration of promising to grow old together! The beauty of elopements is that it’s everything that you two love, and a reflection of you as a couple (oh, and added bonus, you can even bring your dogs!).
A major factor to consider before eloping, just how intimate are you going to get? The two of you, and a pair of witnesses at the courthouse? Beachside with an officiant? A self-solemnizing ceremony atop a mountain? Immediate family getaway to Mexico? Go over your options, and truly think who you want to be a part of your big day. Planning a wedding can get fairly political, but do what feels right to you. At the end of the day, you’re the only two who have to be on board!
The bottom line is you don’t have to explain your love story to anyone! If eloping feels best for your relationship, then the opinions of second cousins and Facebook friends, shouldn’t matter.
Things to consider when eloping!
Items such as rings, a bouquet, hair, makeup and clothing should all be considered before jetting off to say “I do”! Research local boutiques that could take care of all of your beauty needs on the day of! Oh, and if a white dress doesn’t resonate with you, feel free to add a pop of color or wear a color that you look particularly bangin’ in!
Photography is kind of a must! Alright, alright, I’m partial, but still. Elopement or not, your love story is worthy of documenting. This also leads me to my next item; mailing out a notice! An announcement is a great way to fill loved ones in on your big news, think of them as a reverse save the date!
Travel arrangements, and after party plans are also a big items to consider early in your planning process. Will you grab drinks with friends afterwards, or go full romance mode and enjoy a candle lit picnic? Remember to treat yo’ self a bit, this is your wedding, after all!
Does eloping have your name written all over it? Oh, and if you’re looking for a photographer to document and accompany you on your big day, I know a girl. Word on the street is she’s offering discounted travel costs for 2018 if you mention this blogpost!
